To market

Last week two works by Andy Warhol have been auctioned at Christie's for over $ 149 million. On the one hand “Tripple Elvis”, showing singer and actor Elvis Presley in a Western pose with a gun. On the other hand "Fours Marlons", showing actor Marlon Brando quadruplicated on a motorcycle. It was not an auction record for Warhol's silkscreen prints. But it was the most successful auction for Christies ever. Besides the objects’ rarity as well as quality, this record is clearly linked to the people’s confidence into the art market, as Brett Gorvy, Chairman and International Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie's, says:
If you look at any other marketplace. If you look at the ups and downs at stock market. If you look at the ups and downs at the real estate markets. The market did incredibly Remained constant load falling on the years what has been the art market.

However, the sale of the Warhol is considered controversial because the art had been purchased in the 1970s by a German state-owned casino. Critics fear that this German state (North Rhine-Westphalia) will use the sales revenue to compensate its budgetary deficit.
